The Gables Bed and Breakfast is situated at the top of the famous Kennet and Avon Canal, Caen Hill Flight of Locks.

There is a very pleasant 15 minute walk along the canal towpath opposite The Gables, into the town of Devizes where many pubs and restaurants may be found.

Devizes is an ideal location from which to explore Wiltshire.

Nearby attractions include: The Georgian City of Bath, the Cathedral city of Salisbury, the ancient stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge and the National Trust village of Lacock.

Devizes is an ideal location to explore the wiltshire landscape, the Kennet and Avon Canal, Avebury, Stonehenge, Bath and Lacock are all within a short drive. Kennet and avon canal - To the east of Devizes, the Kennet and Avon canal is lock-free for 15 miles to Wootton Rivers, a stretch known as the Long Pound. Caen Hill Flight of Locks - At the western edge of Devizes is the Caen Hill flight of 29 locks, one of the wonders of the waterways world. Where the kennet and Avon drops 237 feet in just 2 1/4 miles, the Canal then passes through pleasant farmland below the village of Seend Lacock - Lacock village is owned by the National Trust. The village and Abbey have often been used as settings for films including Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice. Lacock Abbey was the home of William Henry Fox Talbot, photographic pioneer. The oriel window is the subject of one of his original negatives. Bath Stonehenge and Avebury - Stonehenge lies approx 30-minute drive to the South of Devizes. These world-renowned standing stones remain a mystery. Avebury village lies in the centre of an enormous circle of standing stones. Visitors can walk amongst the stones and it is well worth a visit. World-famous stone circle at the heart of a prehistoric landscape World Heritage Site One of Europe's largest prehistoric stone circles Voted the country's third most spiritual place Follow the archaeological story of Avebury in a fascinating museum Bath The Georgian city of Bath will take about 35 minutes to reach. An open top bus tour is highly recommended as you can hop on or off at places which interest you. Salisbury This beautiful cathedral city is about the same distance in the other direction across Salisbury Plain. Stately Homes etc. Bowood House and gardens, Longleat House and Wildlfe Park and Wilton House are all within easy travelling distance for a day trip. Family Room and Twin Room Rates. En-Suite Family Room - We can offer an en-suite family room, with both a double bed and single bed, with colour television and tea/coffee making facilities. En-Suite Twin Room - We also have an en-suite twin room with two single beds, Digital colour television, hairdryers and tea/coffee making facilities. An iron and ironing board is also available for guest use (Ironing can also be provided) For 2006 our rates are: Double or Twin Room (Per room, 2 people Bed and Breakfast B&B) Family Room (Per room, three people, Bed and Breakfast B&B) Single person Bed and Breakfast B&B (if available) Breakfast Breakfast is served in the guest dining room at the front of the house. A full English breakfast is available, or you may prefer a lighter option. Breakfast is served from 7am - 10am. (Breakfast times may be subject to change, guests will be notified of times available when booking) The dining room is also available for guests in the evening. A microwave is available in the dining room for guests who would like to eat their own evening meals. We are happy to provide plates etc. The local Spar shop (6am -10pm) sells a wide range of foods.
